Federal Minister Amir Muqam Calls for Increased International Support for Afghan Refugees

Islamabad, Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Engineer Amir Muqam emphasized the need for enhanced international support to manage Afghan refugees effectively during a virtual discussion with UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi. The minister highlighted the substantial resources required to address the growing needs of the refugees and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring their safety and dignity.

According to Press Information Department, the virtual interaction focused on the ongoing challenges faced by Afghan refugees and the support provided by UNHCR. Minister Muqam expressed gratitude for the partnership with UNHCR and urged the international community to increase funding and support. He emphasized the importance of voluntary, safe, and dignified repatriation and the integration of returnees into Afghan society.

Minister Muqam also mentioned the impact of Afghanistan’s political landscape on refugees and the importance of international forums and meetings in fostering joint efforts. He expressed anticipation for upcoming commitments and highlighted the expected visit of the UNHCR High Commissioner in July 2024, emphasizing its potential impact on collaborative efforts.
