Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry raises problems faced by industry in Sindh with Provincial Government

Islamabad, October 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Gulzar Firoz, Acting President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has asked the Sindh Government to pay attention to problems faced by trade and industry in Sindh, in particular the issue of water shortage in SITE Industrial Area while holding a meeting with Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memom, Sindh Minister for Information and Industries at Federation House Karachi. Mr. S.M. Muneer, former President FPCCI and senior business leader, as well as FPCCI Vice President Mr. Naveed Jan Baloch also spoke on the occasion.

Mr. Gulzar Firoz also said that industrialists were facing problems with regard to the sales tax on services which had been introduced by the Sindh government which should be addressed. For instance, private security companies were faced with the issue of 10% sales tax which was unjust, because they were fulfilling the government’s duty of providing law and order.

He said that five reverse osmosis plants for providing clean water to industrial areas had been sanctioned by the Governor Sindh but the scheme was yet to be implemented because it was still seeking approval from the Sindh Government. Similarly, he raised the issue of non-adjustment of withholding tax due to lack of coordination between FBR and the Sindh Revenue Board.

While responding to the businessmen’s concerns, Mr. Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh Government had launched a campaign against illegal hydrants due to which the water situation was expected to improve shortly.

He asked industry to cooperate in identifying violations of law and also asked the business community to support his government in taking tough decisions which were imperative to improve the business environment in Sindh.

He assured the business community of his maximum facilitation in addressing their concerns with regard to law and order, infrastructure, provision of water and encroachments in SITE and other industrial areas in Sindh.

The meeting was concluded with presentation of the FPCCI Crest to Mr. Sharjeel Memon by Mr. Gulzar Firoz, Mr. S.M Muneer, and Mr. Naveed Jan Baloch.
