Fish Processing Zone will be setup in South Punjab: Director General Fisheries

Lahore, February 21, 2016 (PPI-OT): Director General Fisheries Dr. Muhammad Ayub has said that fish processing zone will be setup in South Punjab. He said that the private sector doing the business of fish has stood at its own feet due to the assistance of Fisheries Department. He said that South Punjab has been made hub of fisheries. DG Fisheries said that the biggest fish seed hatchery of Asia is being set up in Rajanpur and work is continuing speedily. He said that a big hatchery is being established in Muzaffargarh for breeding fish in saltish water.

He expressed these views while addressing a special seminar on the topic “Fish Feed and Fish Feeding” at Fish Seed Hatchery, Bahawalpur, today. Director Aquaculture Sikandar Hayat, Director Fisheries Hatchery Management Mehar Ismail, Director Research and Training Dr. Imtiaz, Deputy Director Plannign and Development Ansar Mehmood Chatta, Deputy Director Fisheries Bahawal Pur Dvision Riaz ud Din Qureshi, Deputy Director Hatcheries Bahawalpur Muhammad Gulzar, other officers of the department fish farmers and a large number of people associated with fisheries sector were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Muhammad Ayub said that all possible steps are being taken for the provision of timely and best services to fish farmers for the promotion of fish farmers. He said that the work has been started phased-wise on the program of importing training to the one thousand fish farmers at their farms about fish seed and methods of breeding fish feed so that they could achieved maximum and quality fish production according to their requirements.

DG Fisheries said that revolutionary steps are being taken for organizing existing nurseries and hatcheries on modern lines and setting up of new hatcheries and nurseries for the facility of fish farmers. He told that Fisheries Departments has provided 50 lakh fish seed to public and private sector during current financial year for meeting the requirement of fish seed of fish farmers of Bahawalpur Division.

Dr. Ayub said that fish farms have been set up at five hundred acre land in private sector in Darawar which will help promote fisheries. He said that free modern laboratory facilities have been provided for eradication of fish diseases and analyzing water and soil at fish farms and fish farms of farmers south Punjab are benefiting from it. He said that literature and technical advises are also being provided to farmers for setting up fish farms.

DG Fisheries told fish farmers that the increase in quality and production is possible for using modern technology and new trends in Aquaculture and they can get guidance from fisheries department in this regard. He said that more than 158 million ton fish in being produced annually through natural and fish farmers all over the world, trough which 136 million ton eating fish is produced whereas more than 66 million ton fish in produced through fish farming which is more than half of the total production.

Earlier Director Fisheries, Research and Training Dr. Imtiaz, Assistant Prof. Dr. Hafiz, Dr. Nuzhat Sial, progressive fish farmer Shahid Iqbal and other speakers also addressed the seminar and provided awareness regarding fisheries in the light of their experiences.
