Flood early warning system must be in Place and Functional: Prime Minister Gilani

Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has asked the new Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Power to ensure that the early warning system to monitor the floods is in place and functional before the start of the next rainy season. He also directed the Secretary to finalize arrangements for holding energy conference at the earliest.

The Prime Minister was talking to new secretary of the Ministry of Water and Power, Mr. Imtiaz Hussain Qazi who called on him at PM’s House here this morning after assuming the charge of his new assignment.

The Prime minister asked the Secretary to take all the stakeholders particularly the provincial governments on board to make upcoming energy conference successful.

The Prime Minister said that the energy shortage is one of the major challenges facing the country and the Government is trying its level best to enhance generation capacity by harnessing hydel, wind, solar, nuclear and coal potential to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

The Prime Minister directed the secretary to make sure that no unscheduled load shedding is done in any part of the country. He also asked the Secretary to ensure that all the power generation plans are working to its full capacity

The Secretary, Ministry of Water and Power, apprised the Prime Minister that the Ministry has expedited the process of recovery of arrears. He thanked the Prime Minister for his guidance and confidence reposed in him.
