French and Pakistani experts explore potential of mineral resources in Pakistan

Islamabad, November 22, 2012 (PPI-OT): The French Ambassador to Pakistan, Philippe Thiebaud, and the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Mir Changez Khan Jamali, opened on the 23rd of November 2012, a roundtable-discussion dedicated to “Geology and Mineral Resources of Pakistan”.

The geological resources of Pakistan are likely to be crucial in addressing the energy and economic challenges of the country. French expert in geostrategic, Didier Julienne, aimed at attracting attention to the importance of exploring and exploiting this potential.

The roundtable held on the 23rd in Islamabad was jointly organized by the French Embassy in Pakistan and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) with the collaboration of Geological Survey of Pakistan (GDP). The objective was to gather international and Pakistani experts, academics and professionals to discuss the prospects and challenges of the mineral sector development in Pakistan.

This event is part of a collaborative programme between the French Embassies in Islamabad and Kabul on “the sustainable management of mineral resources, a geopolitical issue and a governance and development challenge”.
