Funeral of Birmingham Martyrs: High Commissioner pays tributes to families for peace keeping role

Islamabad: The funeral prayers of three Pakistani origin young men who lost their lives in riots last week took place at Summerfield Park Birmingham today, amidst thousands of mourners who had gathered from various parts of the UK.

Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan also attended the ceremony and conveyed to the families of martyrs condolences and tributes on behalf of the people of Pakistan the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

He was accompanied by wife Mrs. Zarina Wajid Hasan and high officials of the High Commission and Pakistan Consulate in Birmingham, says a press release received from Birmingham here today.

The three young men Haroon Jehan, Shehzad Ali and Abdul Musavir, were ran over by a car while protecting the community in the wake of riots in Birmingham last week. Mr. Tariq Jehan father of shaheed Haroon Jehan had made a historic appeal to the young people to remain calm and peaceful in that hour of distress. An act that saved the UK from further conflicts has been widely acknowledged in the Britain and world over.

In his address to the mourners also today Mr. Jehan reiterated this stance and asked the Muslim youth to follow Islamic teachings of peace and forgiveness. He said that it was due to sacrifice of these three young men that the peace prevailed in Birmingham , who embraced shahadat while protecting the community.

High Commissioner Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan while paying rich tributes to the martyrs and their families said they deserved plaudit for exceptional dispensation of patience and reasoning at the moment of extreme of grief and desperation. He said “your patience saved this country from the crises; you are our heroes and will always be respected”. Mr. Hasan added that “I have come here on behalf of the People, the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan to pay tributes to and share grief of the family”.

Earlier Sheikh Muhammad Ali Kubi, in his address, called upon the Muslims particularly youth to look at the life of the Holy Prophet to learn patience in difficult moments as he lost his son, daughter, wife and cousin who was like brother to him but always faced these moments of grief with Patience.

Mrs. Zarina Wajid Hasan, wife of the High Commissioner remained with mothers and sisters of the martyrs and paid tributes to them for the courage and patience that led to save communities in Birmingham from plunging into further crises and bloodshed.
