Gilani urges world to hold inquiry into killings

Srinagar, July 17, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has appealed to the global community to pave the way for an International inquiry led by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights into the mass killings by Indian armed forces in the territory.

Syed Ali Gilani has made the appeal through a letter sent to the United Nations Security Council, heads of UNSC permanent members, European Union, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation. A copy of the letter was sent to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Turkey, King of Saudi Arabia, President of China and President of Iran. Syed Ali Gilani urged the international community to intervene in order to challenge the behaviour of India and stop its reign of terror in Jammu and Kashmir. He asked the international community to prevail upon India to create an atmosphere conducive for settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per UN resolutions.

A report released by the Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of International Justice Day, today, said that as many as 45 innocent civilians have been killed and over 3500 injured during the past nine days of the ongoing Intifada in Kashmir. Among these injured include over a hundred people with pellet injuries in eyes. The report demanded that the Indian rulers and army officers involved in the genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the occupied territory be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court, created by Rome Statute passed today in 1998.

Meanwhile, people are facing acute shortage of essential items including medicines as the authorities continued to impose curfew and other restrictions on the 9th consecutive day in the territory, today. Suspension of internet and mobile services have aggravated their agonies. The authorities have also imposed complete ban on Pakistani channels in the territory. No newspaper could hit stands for the second day, today, following the media gag imposed by the authorities. All editors of Kashmir-based newspapers at a meeting in Srinagar condemned the clamping down on Press by Indian authorities.

The ongoing anti-India protests has influenced as remote as Drass area of Kargil where complete shutdown was observed, today, to express solidarity with Kashmiris against Indian aggression. On the other hand, the authorities continued to put Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and many others under house arrest or illegal detention.
