Karachi, June 09, 2015 (PPI-OT): The government has mandated the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority to monitor the quality of the 78 items including food products in the country. These items are under mandatory certification through statutory regulatory orders (SROs), issued by the government from time to time. As per the PSQCA Act VI of 1996 and Pakistan Conformity Assessment Rule 2011, PSQCA has however a complete mechanism in place to check the quality of food and other mandatory items as per Pakistan’s Standards throughout the Pakistan.

Under the instruction of Director General PSQCA Mr. Barkat Saeed Memon; Directorate of Conformity Assessment North(Punjab) conducted raid against illegal manufacturing and sale of the sub standards product.

A Lahore’s big company “Gourmet Products” was raided at many places/shops. A shop at Johar Town, Lahore was seized due to non-conformance in microbiological quality of Bottled water Product failed in microbiology test at PSQCA laboratory. “Gourmet sweats and bakers, Hockey Stadium, Faisalabad was instructed to not to sale unlicensed products like carbonated beverages (Cold Drinks) and orange juice. Stock present at the store of said items were also removed from the shelves.

During market survey PSQCA team found a Mineral Water Plant, M/s Clarity Water, Jatt Chowk, Johar Town, Lahore. Working illegally (without Certification Mark license). Notices were issued to stop illegal manufacturing under the provision of the Conformity Assessment Rules 2011.

The market survey was also conducted in the Sheikhupura region by the incharge PSQCA Liaison Office, Sialkot and found a bottled drinking mineral water plant with the name of M/S Agua Pure and Cure Premium drinking water sub standard and working illegally. The unit was seized due to illegal Manufacturing of bottle drinking water at Sheikhupura. Another mineral water unit namely M/s Smart Drinking Water, Shop No. 64-65, Sheikhupura was also seized due to illegal manufacturing of bottled drinking water.
