Government obtained mandate of people of Pakistan on 11th May 2013 and is striving hard to work for betterment of citizens: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said “PML-N government has obtained the mandate of the people of Pakistan on 11th May 2013 and is striving hard to work for the betterment of the citizens of Pakistan. We have initiated late of development projects and have put Pakistan in right direction. People gave us their verdict to serve them for five years and during this time we will bring transformational changes in Pakistan to make it a prosperous country. No one will be allowed to derail the positive work done by the government done in last year.”

He was chairing the First National Student Architectural Design Competition organized by Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) in collaboration with Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform.

PIDE was established in 1957 at Karachi. It’s been 50 years now that PIDE has an international reputation in field of theoretical and empirical research in development economics in general and on Pakistan related economic issues; the department has an internationally recognized faculty and advisory board.

PIDE will be gathering people from across the country; an event where students from Architecture Schools of Pakistan are meeting its excellence; we are anticipating Dignitaries, Officials from the Government visiting the Display of Architectural Design Proposals by the students for PIDE campus, Islamabad. The participating Universities are COMSATS (Islamabad), NUST(Islamabad), UET (Lahore) and NCA (Rawalpindi/Lahore).

The Federal Minister’s vision is to contribute to the education of the architecture students. Competitions present unique opportunities to investigate and utilize building materials and design techniques from different perspectives or those that the students may not be familiar with already.

The participants compete among students from a broad range of programs and are evaluated by diverse juries of experts. Competitions can also assist instructions with developing a repertoire of design challenges to use in studio courses.

The purpose of involving Academia on board is to produce a better research based design on modern lines, “THE UNIVERSITY OF THE FUTURE”. This project will provide the students of Architecture and Design a platform where they can deliver their creativity and innovations on a live project.

The Planning Commission has started to recognize innovative projects and future-oriented concepts from students of architecture and is accepting submissions that envision a more sustainable and equitable build environment for all.

The aim of the competition is to promote a reflection on the importance of “Thinking and Action on Build Environment” as a conceptual and operative tool. The intension is to connect places to the social and cultural context that contains them and to recover the essence of their identity and values.
