Islamabad, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and US President Barrack Obama during their meeting held in October, 2013, resolved to resume discussions on trade and investment through Pak-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council forum.
In this backdrop, Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, on the invitation of United States Trade Representative (USTR), Michael Froman, would be visiting Washington DC from 13th – 15th May, 2014, to co-chair the 7th TIFA Council meeting.
During the meeting, areas of mutual interest will be discussed and a long term joint plan would be developed to give the much needed boost to the trade and investment between two countries. The meeting will also discuss issues such as trade facilitation, Intellectual Property Rights protection and enforcement, business outreach programs and building entrepreneurship and creating linkages of Pakistani exporters with US market.
A strong business delegation comprising of leading names from textiles and apparel sector would also be accompanying Minister for Commerce for holding a business roundtable with US buying houses. Minister for Commerce will also hold a roundtable with leading US Information Technology companies to encourage them to outsource from Pakistan. Minister would also hold several bilateral meetings with US Government officials besides delivering keynote addresses to different think tanks and policy institutes.
