Govt initiates different policy level interventions to promote agriculture: Tarar

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazeer Tarar says government has initiated different policy level interventions, including short, medium and long-term measures to promote agriculture.

Responding during Question Hour in the National Assembly, he said this sector contributes 22.9 percent in the GDP and 37.4 percent in employment generation and ensures food security.

Answering another question, Minister said PASSCO has procured one point eight million metric tons of wheat from farmers.

Azam Nazeer Tarar said the Federal Government is going to enhance subsidies for farmers in upcoming budget from thirty to forty percent.

He said provincial governments are also being encouraged to announce packages for the agriculture sector.
