Hurriyat Leader Nayeem Khan Calls for Global Action Against Indian Actions in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference currently detained in India, has called on the international community to intervene and halt the Indian government’s ongoing repression in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Khan, from Tihar Jail in New Delhi, highlighted the recent intensification of cordon and search operations by Indian troops, including the widespread illegal arrests of young people in the region. These measures, he noted, have escalated as India approaches its parliamentary elections, suggesting a crackdown to curb dissent and prevent unrest.

Khan criticized the Modi government for violating basic human rights in the region, including freedom of expression. He emphasized that political and human rights activists in occupied Kashmir are being arrested in large numbers, with many being held in prisons far from their homes.

He further stated that the Kashmiri people’s struggle is solely for freedom from what he termed as Indian illegal rule and to achieve their right to self-determination. Khan also commemorated the 26th anniversary of the martyrdom of Kashmiri leader S. Hameed Wani, who he said died fighting for the Kashmiri cause in 1998.
