Pakistan and UK Seek to Strengthen Ties Through Parliamentary Diplomacy and Economic Engagement

Islamabad, In a meeting today at Parliament, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the importance of enhancing the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, focusing on expanding parliamentary ties, economic cooperation, and people-to-people interactions.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sadiq discussed the potential for deepening bilateral relations with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms. Jane Marriott. He highlighted the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering strong bilateral ties and proposed increased collaboration between the two parliaments. Initiatives such as parliamentary friendship groups and high-level exchanges were identified as key to enhancing mutual understanding and benefiting from shared experiences. An invitation will be extended to the Speaker of the House of Commons to visit Pakistan with a delegation of UK parliamentarians.

Speaker Sadiq also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK, describing them as invaluable to the socio-economic development of both countries. He expressed commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to support overseas Pakistanis and called on the UK to provide more educational opportunities, including scholarships for Pakistani students, to strengthen cultural and educational ties.

Ms. Marriott expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and agreed to relay the discussed concerns to the appropriate UK authorities, affirming her optimism for the future of Pakistan-UK relations.
