Incumbent govt serious to resolve problems of business community: Law minister

Islamabad: The incumbent PPP Government is all serious to resolve the problems faced by the business community in Pakistan. There is no denying the fact that the present law and order situation and energy crisis have badly damaged the business environment in the country. However, all possible measures are being taken to create a conducive environment for commercial activity. Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Maula Baksh Chandio expressed these views today while talking to the business leaders at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Capital Office, Islamabad.

Tracing the tumultuous political history of the country, the Federal Law Minister said that dictatorships have been blocking the path of political development after every ten years. This has precisely been reason for poor showing of Pakistan at the economic front. It is an established fact that political and economic stability are intertwined and one cannot be achieved independent of the other. Since Pakistan has faced political instability since its inception so the poor results at the economic front.

Independent power producers (IPP’s) project initiated by Benazir Bhutto Shaheed government in the 1990’s is a case in point. The project could not see the light of the day because of political bickering and petty political gains, the minister elaborated.

Using strong words, the minister said that PPP has always been given government to clean the dirt left by dictators and it goes to the credit of the PPP’s successive governments that those have not left the public in the lurch at those critical times. The Minister also put the responsibility on Zia’s dictatorship for Karachi’s chaotic condition in these times.

The Minister further said that Pakistan is rich in mineral resources and PPP is incumbent government has shown its resolve to tap those resources. Coal and gold reserves will be exploited for the good of the people. If the present stint of democratic governments continues in power then people will reap the benefits of these reserves in the coming futures, the minister said.

Putting strong emphasis on good governance and system of accountability, the minister said that no system can survive without having proper mechanisms for accountability. The minister said that every section of society must come within the purviews of accountability.

FPCCI president Senator Haji Ghulam Ali brought into the notice of Federal Minister the glaring issues faced by the business community in the country. The minister promised to extend his full support business leaders.
