Agartala, Members of the INDIA alliance, comprising major opposition parties, organized a protest march in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, to voice their demands for job creation, improved civic services, and enhanced safety measures for women.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration, led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and supported by Congress, kicked off a weeklong agitation against the BJP-led state government. The protests, which started on May 13 and are set to continue until May 18, aim to press for immediate action on several critical local issues, including job shortages and unpaid worker wages.
“The absence of the state government’s effective presence is felt across Tripura, where rural and hill areas are reportedly facing severe shortages,” Chaudhury stated during the march. He also highlighted ongoing issues like the unprecedented fuel crisis, questioning the state’s management of local resources, especially given Tripura’s role as a producer of CNG.
Simultaneously, the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress held a protest demanding more robust police action in response to recent crimes against women. Shreyasi Laskar, a leader from the organization, criticized the state government’s handling of these issues, indicating a rise in violence under the current administration.
