New Delhi: Indian judicial tribunals have recently reaffirmed the prohibition of two prominent Kashmiri organizations, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and the Masarrat Aalam Butt-led Muslim League, citing the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

According to Kashmir Media Service, these organizations, which advocate for Kashmiri self-determination and independence, have been labeled as “pro-freedom” by the Indian authorities. The tribunals, presided over by Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court, have endorsed the continuation of these bans, igniting fears among the Kashmiri population of further restrictions on their political expression and freedom. The move has been widely criticized as part of India’s ongoing efforts to quell dissent and maintain control in the region.
