Indian Border Security Force Shoots and Kills Bangladeshi Farmer at Brahmanbaria Border

Dhaka, A 23-year-old Bangladeshi farmer was shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Brahmanbaria border. The incident occurred near the Putia border in Kasba Upazila, leading to tensions and a formal protest by Bangladesh authorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Bangladeshi man, identified as Muhammad Hasan, was with friends near the zero-line area at the Indian border when BSF personnel opened fire, resulting in Hasan’s injury. His friends, Muhammad Yasin and Emon Mia, along with local residents, managed to rescue him and transport him to the Kasba Upazila Health Complex. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kasba police station, confirmed the shooting and said Hasan’s body would be sent to the district Sadar hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. The authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Sultanpur 60BGB Captain Javed Bin Jabbar also indicated that the matter is under investigation. A meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF was held in the afternoon following the shooting, during which BGB formally lodged a protest against the incident. The shooting has once again highlighted the ongoing issue of violence along the India-Bangladesh border.

This incident is not isolated, as earlier shootings by the BSF have resulted in the deaths of several Bangladeshi nationals at the border. The violence at the border underscores the need for both nations to address the issue and find a way to reduce the loss of life and maintain peace and security.
