Srinagar: An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officer has reportedly committed suicide in the city of Jammu, located in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the officer, identified as Nitish Kumar, aged 33, hailed from Pathankot in Indian Punjab. Kumar was found hanging from the ceiling in his room in the Paloura locality on the city’s outskirts. He was stationed at the Jammu headquarters of the BSF and resided in private accommodation with his wife and their young child.
Officials reported that a police team transported Kumar’s body to the Government Medical College hospital for a post-mortem examination. They added that inquest proceedings have been initiated to determine the cause of death.
This incident is part of a broader trend, with a total of 609 Indian forces’ personnel having died by suicide in the occupied territory since January 2007. The mental health and well-being of soldiers stationed in the region have been a longstanding concern.
In a separate event, an Indian army soldier was killed and another injured when a vehicle from the 63 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was involved in an accident near Badog in the Kalakote area of District Rajouri.
