Indian Forces Accused of Rape and Molestation in Kashmir

Islamabad, Indian armed forces personnel are accused of forcibly entering a house in the Wavoosa area of Srinagar in 1997, subjecting three sisters to rape and another 12-year-old sister to molestation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the sisters who were raped were aged 14, 16, and 18, and their mother was brutally beaten by the troops when she tried to prevent the rape of her daughters. This incident is one of many that have turned the lives of women in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) into a never-ending nightmare over the past 35 years.

Women in the territory have been subjected to terror and trauma through frequent abductions, sexual violence, illegal detentions, and molestation by Indian forces under the pretext of ‘cordon and search operations’. Indian forces are accused of resorting to inhuman and brutal acts to suppress the legitimate freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people.
