Indian Forces Intensify Search Operations in Jammu and Kashmir Amid Tensions

Jammu: Indian troops have initiated widespread cordon and search operations (CASOs) across several districts in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), specifically targeting areas within Poonch and Kishtwar. These operations mark a continued pattern of military presence and surveillance in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the operations involved multiple branches of the Indian security apparatus, including the Army, Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force, and Special Operations Group. The forces conducted detailed house raids and searches across multiple localities such as Pangai, Salampura, Sanai, Jangal, Pattan, Surankote, and Bangar-Saroor. These actions were purportedly in response to intelligence about suspicious movements, with local residents also being instructed to report any unusual activities.

This escalation of military operations comes amid ongoing human rights concerns cited by residents and activists, including arbitrary arrests, detentions, and the risk of civilian casualties. The region has experienced heightened military engagement and civilian restrictions since the Indian government’s controversial revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, which removed the special status previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir. This decision has significantly intensified local tensions and led to increased militarization, impacting the daily lives of the Kashmiri populace.
