Indian Troops Intensify Operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Disrupting Civilian Life

Srinagar: Indian military and police forces have escalated their cordon and search operations (casos) across various districts in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in widespread disruption to the lives of local civilians. The intensified operations, particularly in the dense forests of the Kastigarh area in Doda, have entered their sixth day and involve a significant deployment of resources, including drones and helicopters.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the ongoing operation in Kastigarh has necessitated the involvement of additional troops, para-commandos, and Special Operations Group personnel to extend the security cordon. The terrain’s challenging conditions have compounded the difficulties faced during the operation. An Indian police officer described the area as mountainous with dense forests, making the search operation both perilous and complex.

The operations have led to numerous arrests, further exacerbating the climate of fear among the residents. The situation worsened following recent attacks, including one that resulted in the deaths of four Indian Army troops, including a Major, and another that left two more troops injured.

Beyond Doda, continued search efforts in the districts of Reasi, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Kupwara, and Bandipora have severely impacted civilian daily activities. Residents have reported constant disruptions and restrictions, along with fears of detention, as the military presence has increased and operations have expanded.

These developments have significantly heightened tensions and hardship for the local populations in the affected areas.
