Raipur: Indian troops have killed five persons in the disturbed Chhattisgarh state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the people were killed during a military operation in north Abujhmad, which is a large forested area bordering the Narayanpur and Kanker districts.
The police dubbed the slain as the Communist Party of India-Maoist guerrillas. This brings the total number of suspected Maoists killed in the state’s Bastar region this year to 197, the Indian news agency reported. The area is a stronghold of Maoist guerrillas.
The Maoists and Marxist movements active in many Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra have been demanding independence from the Indian hegemony since 1947.
