Indonesian Consul General In Karachi Hosted Diplomatic Reception Marking The 67th Anniversary Of The Indonesian Independence Day

Karachi, August 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): To mark the 67th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Consul General in Karachi and Mrs. Rossalis R. Adenan hosted a reception recently at local hotel in Karachi

The Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was the Chief Guest who congratulated the Indonesian Consul General on the auspicious occasion. The reception was also attended by Sindh Government officials, Diplomats, Honorary Consul Generals, businessmen, politicians and representatives from civil society in Karachi.

On the occasion, the Consul General extended the Warmest Regards of the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan and Mrs. Ishak Latuconsina to those who are attending the function. He also extended warmest and sincerest felicitation to the Government and people of Pakistan, to the Sindh Province in Particular, on the auspicious occasion of the 65th Independence Day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan which was falling on 14 August 2012, and of the feast of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramazan which was falling on 20 August 2012.

The Reception was started by the playing of the national anthems of the two countries and followed by remarks of the Consul General and the Chief Guests.

On his remarks, the Indonesian Consul General among others shortly elaborated the development that has been achieved by Indonesia during the last sixty-seven years, characterized by remarkable progress and significant achievement in political, economic, social and cultural sectors. He said that Indonesia’s economy, which represents 40 percent of ASEAN’s aggregate economy, is projected to grow by 6 to 6.5 percent this year.

He also said that according to the UNCTAD, Indonesia is one of the top ten most attractive FDI destinations in the 2010-2012 period. He further said that with the population of more than 230 million, 40 million of which are middle-class, Indonesia under the dynamic leadership of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has made steady progress at every front.

The Consul General emphasized that Indonesia and Pakistan are brotherly countries that have been enjoying excellent and long standing relations which have been transformed into a multi-facet and mutually rewarding partnership encompassing all field of interests. He mentioned what the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi has been carrying out in promoting bilateral economic, trade, social and cultural cooperation, including organizing Indonesian Products Solo Exhibition and Cultural Performance in Karachi and other cites in Sindh Province which he believes to be an important contribution to increase the bilateral trade volume of Indonesia and Pakistan which is recorded as US$ 1.1billion in 2011, but is assumed as still far below the real potential.

\He reiterated the fact that Pakistan and Indonesia have some similarities and huge potentials, not only in economic and trade but also in socio culture. Based on the fact, he strongly believed that two brotherly countries could take more benefits and advantages for their respective people by further strengthening their bilateral relations.

The Sindh Assembly Speaker noted with satisfaction the close relations between the two countries and hoped that the bilateral relations will further strengthened in the years ahead.

The Consul General and the Chief Guest accompanied by the Consul Generals of Malaysia, Thailand and the UAE as well as the President of the Pakistan-Indonesian Business Forum, the President of Pakistan-Indonesian Friendship society performed the cake cutting to mark the celebration.
