Srinagar, In a significant address, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, highlighted the Islamic principles that advocate for the equality and dignity of women. His remarks came during a religious gathering at the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (Dastgeer Sahib) in Srinagar, on the occasion of the last day of Ashra-e-Rehmat, coinciding with the death anniversary of Hazrat Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz stressed the crucial role of women in society as enshrined in Islamic teachings and lamented the continued inferior treatment and disrespect towards women in violation of these principles. He paid homage to Hazrat Khadija (RA), the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) wife, citing her as an exemplary figure of empowerment and resilience for women across generations.
Mirwaiz expressed deep concern over the prevalent issues of domestic violence and the denial of women’s rightful inheritance, practices starkly contrary to Islamic values. He urged for a societal shift towards adherence to Islamic teachings on inheritance rights and called for an end to violence against women.
In a related statement, senior APHC leader Agha Syed Hasan Al-Moosvi al-Safvi paid tribute to Hazrat Khadija on her death anniversary, praising her pivotal role alongside Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the spread of Islam. He highlighted Hazrat Khadija’s distinction as the first believer in the Prophet’s message, underscoring her significant contributions to Islamic history.
