Islamabad High Court bars Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry from announcing election result of Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry nominee

Islamabad, February 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Justice Anwarul Haq Qureshi of Islamabad High Court has issued a stay order barring the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry from announcing the election result of Ms. Naima Ansari as Vice President FPCCI on February 12, 2014 in its Annual General meeting. Ms. Naima was nominated by the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a candidate for the Vice President of FPCCI.

Renowned lawyer Mr. Kokab Iqbal while defending the writ petition filed by Ms. Naina Nasira Ali, member of Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) in the Islamabad High Court said that on 18th December 2013, IHC had directed the Director General Trade Organizations to decide the case within 15 days and stop announcing the results. However, neither the case was heard nor decided within the stipulated period. IWCCI had submitted an application for renewal of its license after two days of filing of writ petition in IHC.

Ms Nasira Ali in her writ petition prayed that IWCCI had nominated Ms. Naima Ansari as its candidate for Vice President of FPCCI without having valid license as license of IWCCI had expired in July 2011. The regulator of trade bodies took no decision within 15 days due to which IHC issued contempt of court notices, but the concerned parties filed no reply. In view of this situation, Justice Anwarul Haq of IHC reissued notices to concerned parties along with issuing a stay order against announcing the election result of IWCCI candidate for Vice President of FPCCI on 12th February 2014.
