New Delhi: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has publicly declared its opposition to the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, labeling it as harmful to the Muslim community’s interests and governance of Waqf properties.

According to Kashmir Media Service, JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini criticized the bill for potentially reducing the autonomy and integrity of Waqf boards and properties. Husaini argued that the bill imposes a “Collector Raj” by granting local collectors extensive control over Waqf assets, which he claims would undermine the Waqf Tribunals’ authority and eliminate the established concept of waqf by user. He further alleged that the bill was drafted without sufficient consultation with relevant stakeholders within the community.

The JIH has expressed hope that opposition parties and even allies of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), such as the Janata Dal (United) and the Telugu Desam Party, will resist the bill’s passage in the legislature. Husaini indicated that the JIH is prepared to challenge the bill in the Supreme Court if it is passed, citing violations of constitutional rights and principles of natural justice.
