Karachi and Turbat Mayors Discuss Strengthening Local Governance and Infrastructure

Karachi, In a series of meetings focused on improving local governance and urban infrastructure, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad welcomed Mayor of Turbat, Balochistan, Bilak Sher Qazi, to the head office of Baldia Uzma Karachi. The discussions aimed to enhance mutual relations and share strategies on urban management and service delivery systems.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the meetings addressed a variety of development issues including the improvement of the local government service delivery system in Karachi, which Mayor Wahab highlighted as part of a broader initiative supported by the Sindh government. He emphasized that such upgrades are crucial for raising the quality of life at the grassroots level through better infrastructure such as water and sewage systems, roads, and street lighting.

Mayor Turbat Bilak Sher Qazi discussed the challenges and priorities in Turbat, which includes managing a growing urban framework across 53 wards with 79 council members. He expressed his intent to enhance municipal facilities like roads and sewage systems in Turbat, taking cues from Karachi’s governance model. Deputy Mayor Murad shared insights into Karachi’s local governance efforts, stressing the ongoing projects under the guidance of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the city’s development.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on the importance of continued cooperation and communication between Karachi and Turbat to leverage mutual experiences for better local governance. Mayor Qazi also visited significant historical sites in Karachi, further emphasizing the cultural exchange component of his visit.
