Karachi, In anticipation of expected heavy rainfall, Director General of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Syed Shujaat Hussain convened a high-level meeting at the Civic Center to declare a rain emergency across all KDA townships and schemes, instituting a broad array of precautionary measures.
According to Karachi Development Authority, DG Hussain directed the immediate enhancement of drainage facilities throughout KDA-controlled areas to manage the forecasted abnormal rains effectively. He mandated that all irrigation pumps and machinery be kept in permanent operation, and that additional generators and heavy machinery be hired as necessary. The directive also included the establishment of rain emergency centers in site offices of KDA schemes and townships to ensure readiness and coordinated response with various civic agencies.
In a stringent move, DG Hussain canceled all leave for concerned officers and employees, underscoring the seriousness of the preparations. He tasked Chief Engineer KDA Tariq Rafi with the critical role of overseeing the implementation of these emergency measures and maintaining 24-hour operational readiness to handle any emergent situation.

He emphasized the importance of the KDA staff’s role in improving the organization’s performance and financial health. Notably, he instructed Director Parks Muhammad Zahid to issue immediate notices for rent collection from nurseries in KDA townships and to propose a rent increase to the governing body for approval, aimed at boosting KDA’s revenue.
In his comprehensive address, Hussain also discussed strategies for revitalizing inactive parks by engaging NGOs and philanthropists for their adoption, which would enhance public facilities upon completion. A report on all city parks, including those encroached upon or within boundary walls, was ordered to be prepared and submitted, marking a step towards reclaiming and effectively utilizing these spaces.
The meeting underscored KDA’s proactive stance in both emergency preparedness and long-term organizational and community enhancement.
