KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the importance of stability and sustainability for the development of Pakistan and its cities during his address at Unilever Pakistan’s “Sustainability Accelerated” program. He highlighted the need for public-private partnerships to address various urban challenges and expressed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) willingness to collaborate with institutions for the city’s betterment.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab outlined KMC’s readiness to support multinational companies and institutions in social activities, particularly in areas such as afforestation, solar energy supply, public space improvement, solid waste management, sports, and cultural promotion. He encouraged institutions to join forces with KMC to enhance the quality of life in Karachi.
Unilever Pakistan CEO Aamir Pracha spoke about the company’s commitment to sustainability, unveiling their new strategy, “Sustainability Accelerated,” which aims for immediate action on climate initiatives, recycling, and fostering a better economy. Pracha emphasized that Unilever’s efforts are not just about meeting global goals but also creating positive changes for the people and environment in Pakistan.
The event also featured Unilever’s Climate Change Action Plan, highlighting initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and adopt sustainable business practices. Other speakers, including Wala, Jamal Nasir, Sayista Ayesha, and Munir Hassan, contributed to the discussion on advancing sustainability in business and society.
