Karachi Mayor Stresses Importance of Free Journalism for Society

Karachi, Mayor of Karachi and Sindh Government Spokesman Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the crucial role of free journalism in fostering a just society. He made these remarks in a statement marking World Press Freedom Day, highlighting the media’s pivotal role in elevating the voices of the marginalized to legislative bodies through responsible reporting.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab praised journalists who steadfastly champion the truth, often at great personal risk, and reiterated his commitment to press freedom. He underlined that the sacrifices made by these journalists play a vital role in shaping a better society and that their relentless pursuit of truth upholds the highest values of journalism. Mayor Wahab also noted that the freedom of the press is globally acknowledged as fundamental, not only for the stability of democracy but also for economic prosperity, reflecting the People’s Party of Pakistan’s long-standing support for journalists’ welfare through various governmental measures.
