Kashmir youth come together in London to pay tributes to martyrs

London, July 16, 2018 (PPI-OT): Young Kashmiris in the UK came together to pay homage and respects to those who sacrificed their lives for the right to self-determination and vowed to continue the struggle against oppression and injustice committed against the innocent people of Indian occupied Kashmir.

The young Kashmiris under the banner of the Kashmir Youth Assembly in a statement in London expressed the need to internationally highlight the gross human rights violations being perpetrated in Kashmir and advocate the cause for right to self-determination. The statement further added that international youth engagement on Kashmir has been minimal and in this modern age, young people can potentially make a lasting impact, particularly in the case of Kashmir.

“Kashmir Youth Assembly is the first youth organisation of its kind dedicated to youth activism focussing on Kashmir. With the guidance and assistance of our elders who have dedicated their lives and made much sacrifices, we hope to continue the struggle for freedom against occupation and the right to decide our own fate. Although we have formally launched on this auspicious day dedicated to the martyrs of Kashmir, we have been involved in several high level international events in UK and Europe, focusing on intellectuals, think tanks, government institutions and non-governmental bodies”.

KYA have most recently attended the recent 38th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, lobbying the cause of Kashmir and advocating a resolution to one of the oldest ongoing disputes on the UN agenda.
