Kerala Church Leaders Condemn Attacks on Christians in Manipur and Across India

Trivandrum, Church leaders in Kerala have publicly condemned the recent attacks on Christian communities in Manipur and other regions of India, calling for collective action against the forces inciting religious and racial terror.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a Christian assembly in Trivandrum, Archbishop Thomas J. Netto highlighted the violence faced by Christians in Manipur and North India, criticizing the lack of substantial action from the authorities. He emphasized the importance of opposing the divisive and narrow-minded sentiment fostered by legislation like the Citizenship Amendment Act, advocating for unity among Christian denominations to protect minority rights and constitutional freedoms.

Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Tharayil of Changanacherry also spoke out, stressing the responsibility of the nation to protect its people from fear, especially in the context of religious and racial intimidation. The strong statements from church leadership in Kerala come amidst the intensifying election campaigns in the state, reflecting the broader social and political concerns regarding minority safety and rights in India.
