Okara: Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has announced the establishment of a medical college, a girls’ hostel, and an underpass in Okara, aiming to bolster educational and infrastructure development in the region. Her announcement came during a speech at the University of Okara, where she also displayed Core i7 laptops purchased for students.
According to a statement by Chief Minister of Punjab, the projects are set to be completed under her supervision, with an emphasis on supporting students through the introduction of laptops and scholarships. Sharif highlighted the ‘Honhaar Scholarship’ program, which she claims is the largest in Pakistan’s history, aimed at assisting talented students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.
Sharif expressed her personal commitment to the educational welfare of students, emphasizing that she traveled extensively in January to meet students across cities. She reiterated her dedication to providing resources, such as laptops and e-bikes, to alleviate students’ financial burdens, and assured parents that the state will bear educational expenses.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of merit in the awarding of scholarships, stating that the Honhaar scholarships are a recognition of students’ abilities rather than a favor. She pledged to extend the program to 50,000 students next year, ensuring that no child in Punjab is deprived of education.
Sharif also touched on broader issues, urging unity over division and emphasizing the need for loyalty to the country. She criticized past political narratives and called for a shift towards development-focused politics. Her speech reflected a commitment to transform the political landscape into one of service and merit.
