Srinagar, A significant number of arrests have been made in Poonch district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir as part of an extensive cordon and search operation conducted by Indian security forces. The operation, involving army, police, and elite Para Commandos, is part of heightened security measures ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 25th.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the operation has entered its second day and includes strict movement restrictions and increased vehicle checks throughout the district. This large-scale security deployment follows a recent attack on an Indian Air Force convoy which resulted in the death of Corporal Vikky Pahade and injuries to five other personnel near Shahsitar on Saturday.
The ongoing security operation and the preceding attack underscore the volatile security situation in the region as it prepares for the forthcoming elections. The intensive checks and the presence of heavy security are intended to prevent further incidents during this critical period.
