Pakistan Poised to Become Regional Tech Hub, Ambassador Tells U.S. Business Leaders

Islamabad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, emphasized Pakistan’s rapid progress toward becoming the next significant tech hub in the region during discussions with U.S. business leaders, entrepreneurs, bankers, and professionals in Los Angeles. Khan’s remarks highlighted the substantial growth in Pakistan’s technology sector and the government’s reforms aimed at digitizing the economy and boosting business profitability.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Khan engaged with key stakeholders in the American business community, including Maria S. Salinas, President of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. He underscored the presence of about eighty American enterprises currently operating in Pakistan, which have found the Pakistani market to be rewarding and full of opportunities. He urged U.S. companies to increase their investments in Pakistan, noting the potential benefits of a trilateral partnership with Gulf nations to maximize economic gains.

During his visit, Khan also proposed a sister city partnership between Los Angeles and Karachi, which would facilitate enhanced economic interactions. He highlighted the significant Pakistani American community in Los Angeles, which he described as a strong foundation for further developing bilateral relations. This community’s contribution is seen as pivotal in strengthening the bridge between the two nations.

Furthermore, the ambassador outlined ongoing dialogues with the United States on several fronts, including climate change, renewable energy, healthcare, education, and technology, which are priority areas for Pakistan. He reassured that international financial institutions like the IMF support Pakistan’s economic reform initiatives, which the new government is actively pursuing.

The series of meetings in Los Angeles also included interactions with members of the Pakistan American Chamber of Commerce, where Khan emphasized the role of Pakistani American businessmen in sectors like hospitality, healthcare, and technology. He expressed gratitude for their investment in Pakistan and encouraged further collaboration and partnership.

Ambassador Khan’s engagements in Los Angeles reflect a concerted effort to bolster Pakistan-U.S. trade and investment ties, highlighting the promising future of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
