Minister for Human Rights stresses need to resolve issues in prisons

Minister for Human Rights Riaz Hussain Pirzada has stressed upon construction of new barracks in prisons to resolve the issues of over-crowding.

Chairing a meeting of Implementation Commission on Prison Reforms in Islamabad on Friday, he called for expeditious acquisition of lands for construction of barracks and dormitories in the jails.

The Minister advised the Provincial Home departments to make rules, regulations and manuals for jails in conformity with the international standards and commitments.

The Implementation Commission reviewed progress on implementation of reforms recommended for grievance redressal mechanisms in prisons across the country.
