Jammu, In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), over 350 people have been rendered homeless after land subsidence caused severe damage to homes in Ramban district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the land sinking in Pernote village, located along the Ramban-Gool Road, led to the complete destruction of 30 houses, partial damage to 20, and large cracks in 10 others, making them unfit for habitation. This has forced families to abandon their homes and live under the open sky with whatever household goods and livestock they could salvage.
The sudden land subsidence on Thursday evening not only damaged homes but also disrupted road connectivity between Gool and Ramban. Four electricity towers and a receiving station were also impacted, leading to further complications in the affected area.
This is not the first instance of land sinking in the region. In February of the previous year, at least 16 houses were damaged in Duksar Dalwa village in the Sangaldan area due to similar land subsidence, also affecting the road between Gool and Ramban.
Authorities are assessing the damage and coordinating efforts to provide relief and support to the displaced families. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by residents in regions prone to natural disasters and the need for robust infrastructure and disaster preparedness.
