Srinagar, In a recent address, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), voiced his concerns over the continuous restrictions imposed on him, including house arrest, which have hindered his ability to freely access mosques, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while speaking to the congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, lamented his inability to deliver a sermon at Aali Masjid the previous day, citing it as a significant restriction on his and the community’s religious freedoms. The month of Ramadan, he emphasized, is a period of great spiritual importance that should allow for unrestricted religious observance and expression.
He highlighted the impact of such restrictions not just on individual spiritual practices but on the broader communal journey towards faithfulness and devotion. Mirwaiz pointed out the dual nature of Ramadan, which is not only a time for spiritual reflection and worship but also for fulfilling social obligations through zakat (charity) and support to those in need.
In his address, Mirwaiz also mentioned the role of Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil, an institution that has been at the forefront of providing assistance to the underprivileged, sick, and disaster-struck for many years. He encouraged the community to support these efforts by contributing zakat and other forms of charity during Ramadan, thus embracing the comprehensive worship that combines both spiritual and financial aid.
In conclusion, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called upon the authorities to end the practice of unexplained detentions and restrictions, allowing him and others to freely engage in their religious and social duties, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
