Mirwaiz, Gilani call for shutdown in IHK on Monday

Srinagar, December 30, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, have called for complete shutdown, tomorrow (Monday), against the indiscriminate firing on civilians by Indian troops in Pulwama. Fifteen people were injured in the firing of troops on Friday.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said, “We have called for shutdown on Monday (31st December) against the brutal use of force on civilians in Pulwama. We have taken the decision after a Hurriyet delegation visited Pulwama.”

The APHC Chairman reiterated that black laws and militarization would only lead to human rights violations in the territory. He maintained that the incident had aptly exposed the hollow and fabricated statements of the Government of India that things were peaceful in occupied Kashmir. The Mirwaiz further said that India should take cue from the incident that emotions and aspirations of Kashmiri people could not be suppressed on gunpoint.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “We have called for shutdown on December 31 against the indiscriminate firing by Indian forces in Pulwama. We extend wholehearted sympathy with injured persons in the incident. India has deployed trigger-happy forces in Kashmir who kill innocent Kashmiris at their will.”

Terming the announcement of magisterial inquiry by the puppet administration as a cruel joke, the veteran leader said that it was nothing but to deceive and pacify the rage of masses. He pointed out that the puppet regime was not in a position to inquire against Indian troops amid the application of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and other draconian laws.

Meanwhile, the High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory at a meeting in Srinagar decided to boycott courts on Monday in protest against the troops’ firing on peaceful civilians. A spokesman of HCBA in a statement said that the meeting unanimously resolved that the Bar Association members would abstain from appearing in the courts to show solidarity with the family members of the injured persons.
