Karachi, In Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent figure of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has called for solidarity against the divisive sectarian agenda reportedly being advanced in the region. Amid escalating tensions and the curtailment of religious freedoms, Farooq’s plea emphasizes the need for collective resistance to safeguard Kashmiri identity and communal harmony.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a significant gathering in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stressed the urgency of countering hate-driven narratives and actions, advocating for the role of religious institutions as unifiers. He proposed the proactive use of mosques, seminaries, and shrines to promote a sense of brotherhood and mutual respect among diverse Kashmiri sects.
The atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the region, with doubts over the regular observance of significant religious events like Friday and Eid prayers, was highlighted by Mirwaiz. He also noted the concerning silence of Muslim-majority countries on the issues afflicting both Kashmir and Palestine.
Supporting Mirwaiz’s message, other APHC leaders and religious figures from various parts of Kashmir voiced their calls for unity, expressing a collective desire for the restoration of peace and justice. These calls for unity come in the backdrop of allegations against the RSS-backed Indian regime’s efforts to inflame sectarian discord and consolidate its Hindutva ideology in Kashmir.
