Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Barred from Friday Prayers, Placed Under House Arrest in Srinagar

Srinagar, Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest today in Srinagar, preventing him from attending and leading the obligatory Juma prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid reported that the Indian occupation authorities detained Mirwaiz at his residence early this morning. As a result, he was unable to deliver his Friday sermon, a weekly event that draws thousands from across the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to the mosque.

The Anjuman expressed strong condemnation of the authorities’ continued and arbitrary detention of the Mirwaiz, especially on significant religious occasions like Friday prayers, highlighting the distress it causes among the Kashmiri Muslim community. They reiterated their call for an end to these repeated actions which they describe as causing unnecessary grief to the population.
