Srinagar: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), a key Muslim religious body in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has vowed to combat any efforts to foster sectarian discord in the region, attributed to the policies of the Narendra Modi-led government.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the MMU articulated this commitment following a significant meeting at the Srinagar residence of its leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The organization, comprising a diverse group of religious scholars and clergy, issued a statement emphasizing the importance of preserving the area’s longstanding communal harmony.
The MMU called on religious leaders, mosque imams, and social media influencers from various sects to respect each other’s beliefs and refrain from divisive rhetoric in their public discourse. The gathering, which included prominent figures like Maulana Rahmatullah Mir al-Qasimi and Grand Mufti of Kashmir Mufti Nasir ul-Islam Farooqi, focused on fostering unity under the principles of Tawheed (monotheism) to confront the challenges faced by the Muslim community.
The religious coalition condemned recent incidents aimed at inciting sectarian tensions, labeling such actions as detrimental to the unity of the Muslim ummah. The MMU affirmed its determination to counteract these provocations robustly and maintain the integrity of the community’s collective beliefs.
In response to ongoing concerns, the MMU also resolved to expand its influence by incorporating more religious organizations and prominent scholars from across the region, aiming to strengthen inter-Muslim unity and communal cohesion during these turbulent times.
