Modi Aims to Erase Kashmiris’ Identity, Says Tarigami

Srinagar, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of conspiring to obliterate the identity of the people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Tarigami made the statement while addressing a public gathering at Nillow village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. He criticized the internal discord among Kashmiris, arguing that the Modi government intends to exploit these divisions to demolish the region’s distinct identity.

“We are here fighting against each other and it (the Modi dispensation) has decided to demolish our identity,” Tarigami said during his address.

He also pointed out that Kashmiris were often portrayed negatively across India, suggesting that this misrepresentation serves the broader aim of undermining their cultural and regional identity.
