Rabat The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will hold an international seminar on sustainable environmental management of coastal regions, in cooperation with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and in coordination with Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
The seminar, to be held in Muscat on December 17-19, will bring together 70 experts and stakeholders in the field of coastal environment management from relevant institutions of ministries, universities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) within and outside Oman, from 14 countries including ISESCO member states and others.
The gathering aims to exchange expertise in the management of the coastal environment in general and the beaches in particular, as well as presenting the national experiences of participants from ISESCO countries and others. This is in addition to sharing opinions on the means of addressing the impacts of the expansion of coastal cities on the coastline natural areas, which are also affected by tourism, industrial, agricultural and other investment projects.
The seminar also seeks to raise public environmental awareness about the importance of the coastal environmental area and its vulnerability to environmental extinction. The participants will also examine the legal aspects related to environmental protection and coastal planning as well as providing technical mechanisms to alleviate the human pressure represented by the solid and liquid wastes, exploitation of coastal sand dunes and other tourism activities on the coastal environment.
The seminar will showcase many states’ experiences including the coastal observatories of France, Spain and the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in Denmark, in addition to the experiences of the Asian, African and Arab countries.
