Muslim Voters Prevented from Voting in Uttarakhand’s Manglaur

Manglaur: During the by-elections in Uttarakhand’s Manglaur, several Muslim voters were reportedly attacked and obstructed from voting, resulting in a violent clash that left many injured.

According to Kashmir Media Service, social media videos show injured Muslims, including elderly individuals, with blood-stained clothing. Eyewitnesses claim these voters were physically prevented from reaching polling stations. Manglaur Congress candidate Qazi Nizamuddin reported that assailants resorted to gunfire, disrupting the electoral process. Senior Congress leader and three-time MP, Nizamuddin, described the incident as a “murder of democracy,” lamenting the lack of immediate medical assistance for the injured.

Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat echoed these concerns, stating that such intimidation tactics were widespread and aimed at Congress supporters to thwart their participation in the voting process. This alarming event underscores significant tensions and challenges in safeguarding democratic practices in the region.
