Muzaffarabad, A rally organized by Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir in front of the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad paid tribute to Shaheed Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sehrai, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), who died in Indian custody on May 5, 2021.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the gathering drew a large crowd, who displayed banners and chanted slogans echoing Sehrai’s commitment to the Kashmiri cause. The rally marked an expression of continued resistance against Indian rule and a pledge to carry forward the legacy of the Kashmiri martyrs.
Speakers at the event recounted Sehrai’s lifelong struggle for the freedom of Kashmir, emphasizing his role alongside other Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Gilani in mobilizing the Kashmiri populace against Indian dominance. They highlighted Sehrai’s efforts to educate the people of Jammu and Kashmir about the dynamics of resistance and freedom, portraying him as a pivotal figure in the Kashmiri movement.
The rally also remembered Sehrai’s personal sacrifices, including the loss of his son, Junaid Sehrai, to the freedom struggle. Speakers condemned the conditions of his death in custody, describing it as emblematic of the Indian government’s harsh policies towards Kashmiri activists.
The event concluded with calls to continue the struggle for self-determination, inspired by the memories of Ashraf Sehrai and other fallen leaders of the Kashmiri movement. Leaders from various political and resistance groups, including Jamaat-e-Islami AJK and other Hurriyat factions, led the rally, signaling a unified front in the face of ongoing challenges.
