NDMA Chairman Stresses Collective Action to Address Climate Change Impacts

Islamabad: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, has urged everyone to play their role in coping with the negative impacts of climate change. Addressing a media briefing in Islamabad, he highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability, stating it is the fourth most susceptible country globally to climate change and disaster anomalies.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Chairman emphasized that since January 2025, Pakistan has become the 14th most water-scarce country in the world. The economic repercussions are significant, with hydro-meteorological related hazards causing close to four billion dollars in annual losses.

Lieutenant General Malik also noted that the NDMA possesses the capability to predict calamities or disasters well in advance throughout the year, allowing responders ample preparation time. Additionally, he pointed out the noticeable climatic changes in Pakistan, stating that winters are shrinking while the summer season is expected to last longer this year.
