Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for anticipated monsoon rains and potential flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, expected to occur within the next 24 to 72 hours, spanning from August 21 to August 24, 2024.
According to Press Information Department, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the NDMA forecasts significant rain and thunderstorms, including heavy downpours in regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and isolated rainfall across Punjab. The expected conditions may lead to increased river flows, particularly in the Kabul River and its tributaries, and could result in flash floods in various districts including Abbottabad, Charsadda, and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected in eastern Punjab, affecting cities such as Lahore and Multan.
The NDMA has directed all relevant departments to prepare for emergency responses, including mobilizing resources and alerting emergency teams. The public, especially tourists, is advised to avoid traveling to the affected regions during the forecast period and to stay informed through the NDMA’s disaster alert mobile application and local weather reports.
The authority urges residents in the affected areas to adhere to safety instructions issued by local authorities and to remain vigilant as the situation develops.
