NDMA Warns of Torrential Rains and Potential Flooding in Punjab and Sindh

Islamabad: The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting significant rainfall across Punjab and Sindh from August 26 to 29, 2024. The forecast includes the potential for flash flooding in various districts due to torrential rains and advises both authorities and the public to prepare for adverse weather conditions.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA has highlighted an active storm system over parts of Sindh, predicting heavy downpours in short durations, while Punjab is expected to experience intermittent rains in regions including the Potohar area, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Multan. Specific concerns include flash flooding in local nullahs, streams, and hill torrents, particularly in DG Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and other mentioned cities in Punjab. Additionally, coastal flooding along Sindh-Makran’s coast and potential floods in low-lying areas of Dadu, Hyderabad, Badin, and Shahdadpur districts of Sindh are anticipated.

NDMA has directed all relevant departments to alert Emergency Response Teams and mobilize resources to ensure swift and effective responses to the potential impacts. The public is advised to remain vigilant, follow local authority instructions, and stay informed through the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely updates and weather reports.
