Karachi: In a significant breakthrough for Pakistan’s energy sector, the Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDC) has announced a major discovery of oil and gas at the Bitrism East-1 well in District Khairpur, Sindh.
The exploratory well, which was spudded on June 30, 2025, boasts a combined output potential of 22.5 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas and 690 barrels per day (bpd) of oil. This development marks a substantial addition to OGDC’s production capabilities, with the company holding a 77.5% operating interest in the field.
According to analysts at AKD Securities Limited, this discovery is poised to have a favorable impact on OGDC’s financial performance, potentially boosting its annual earnings per share by approximately PKR 1.32. This find not only enhances the company’s portfolio but also contributes to reducing the nation’s dependency on imported energy resources.
